Longaberger holding annual cancer research fundraiser

The American craft company Longaberger is holding their annual Champion the Cause event on Aug. 27 at the Four Points Sheraton in Huntsville.

Independent Longaberger Home Consultant Dianne Kondik said that last year this event raised around five thousand dollars toward cancer research.

“We would like this event to do a little better than last year,” Kondik said.

The registration for the event is five dollars and will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Longaberger is a company that sells homemade baskets made in Ohio.

An additional three dollars will go towards the American Cancer Society for each Horizon of Hope Longaberger basket that is sold, which will equal five dollars donated to breast cancer research.

Kondik said that cancer research is important to Longaberger.

“Every year Longaberger has one month that they do ‘Share a Little Hope’, which are baskets that spread the message of breast cancer awareness,” Kondik said.

A silent auction with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society will be held throughout the event.

Kondik said that some of the events of the day will include guest speeches from cancer survivors and cancer specialists.

Two out of the 12 dollars for lunch will go towards breast cancer research.

Kondik said that Longaberger items will be able to be purchased at the event.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
