Sparkman travels to Buckhorn Friday night

Mixed emotions were in the air Friday night as Sparkman Varsity Boys and Girls travelled to Buckhorn to play the Mighty Bucks.

The Sparkman girls, who have surmised a 9-4 record looked to continue their success on the road against a Buckhorn team who can shoot the deep ball.

We saw a little bit of that shooting from “downtown” early in the first quarter by Buckhorn who made almost all of their shots, but it was the opposite for Sparkman who came out sluggish. At the end of the first quarter the score was 14-8

The second quarter was the same as the first, Buckhorn shot lights out from deep and Sparkman continued to mope around on the court. 21-15 was the score going into half.

In the third quarter, Sparkman tried to get their offense going but still struggled, they still had trouble guarding Buckhorns guards who continued their dominant shooting. 34-26 was the score at the end of the third.

Sparkman played their best basketball in the fourth. They brought tremendous effort on defense trying to slow down the Buck’s guards and also on the offensive side were they started hitting all their shots. But at the end with some loose pressure on the ball handler, Buckhorn was able to make a shot at the last minute sending it to overtime.

In overtime, it was the same story Sparkman had woke up and was playing the best basketball ever and Buckhorn stayed with them until the end when Buckhorn was able to put up a shot to win the game 54-53, leaving Sparkman fans and players in disarray.

Boys’ game

The Boys played next and they looked to bring home a win after the girls team took a heartbreak lost.

Sparkman Boys who have a record of 6-5 brought everything thing they had to beat an average Buckhorn team.

In the first quarter, Sparkman came out hot on both sides of the ball, but Buckhorn played them very tightly. 15-9 was the score after the first quarter

In the second quarter Sparkman loosened up on their defense but was still able to stop the Bucks from scoring, as they continued to struggle.

In the third, Sparkman came out even hotter as they made about every shot they took as for Buckhorn they just couldn’t stop the speed of Sparkman

In the fourth it was the same as Sparkman continued its dominance even though Buckhorn made a little push. The final score was 54-41
