Title Tilt, Bob Jones vs Hoover for Championship

Birmingham- The Bob Jones Patriots girl’s basketball team arrived about an hour ago in the BJCC after a short bus ride from the nearby Sheraton Hotel for what they hope will be their second straight state championship. As expected, they will again have to defeat Hoover to claim the coveted AHSAA Blue Championship Trophy.

Hoover comes in hot. They have won 18 straight games including an impressive 66-45 victory over Central-Phenix City on Friday morning. The Bucs trailed early 13-10 but quickly regained the edge to lead 34-24 at halftime. Hoover dominated on the boards with a 43-28 edge in rebounding.

Bob Jones will have their work cut out for them in the post where Hoover’s 6-foot-2 Nicole Tanner dominates. She is a senior and an Auburn signee. Senior Breion Allen, a Rice University signee, controls the point for the Bucs.

All told Hoover has five Division 1 signees on their roster.

But that didn’t matter back on December 12 when the teams last met at Bob Jones gym. The Lady Patriots took that game 36-34.

Bob Jones has not lost a game since a Holiday Tournament loss to Science Hill High School of Johnson City, Tennessee. Led by a trio of seniors Bob Jones comes into the game with a 36-2 record. Jasmine Jones has stepped up in critical situations in the playoff so far. She had 11 points and 10 rebounds in a semi-final win over Davidson. Tierra Jones had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Joidan Jennings had 5 points and 4 assists in that game.

The bench has been a key to Bob Jones’ success this season and in the playoffs. Chandler Elder actually led the team in scoring against Davidson with 14 points. The sophomore hit 3 of 3 three-point shot attempts.

The game will tip off at 7 pm and officials here expect a large crowd. The game will be televised back to Madison on WAMY which is Knology channel 8.
