Blakely announcing for Bob Jones Patriots

Madison school contacts have found “the voice” in Scott Blakely, the new announcer for Patriots football.

Scott Blakely is the new announcer for Bob Jones Patriots football.

Well prepared for the gig, Blakely has more than 20 years of experience in radio, television and voice work. “I’ve provided voice work for Oxygen women’s TV network, book narration, movie promos and television. Most recently, I was the morning show host for a radio station in south Florida,” he said.

“I wanted to try something different and this opportunity came along,” Blakely said about applying for announcer. He will give play-by-play details at Bob Jones home games at Madison City Schools Stadium.

With this assignment, Blakely will devote time to study the Patriots’ roster, select music and record announcements promoting the game with theme music.

During his career, Blakely worked with Ole Miss Rebel and Arkansas Razorback football broadcasts. “I wrestled in high school, and I was also a competitive surfer,” he said.

Blakely is optimistic about the 2012 Patriot lineup. “The Patriots will make the playoffs. I think they are a well-rounded team. The defense made some great stands against Huntsville High School, and the offense has a great running game,” he said.

Off the field, Blakely works as a technical writer for Baron Services. “I provide voiceovers for people and businesses all over the country through my website, voiceofscott.com,” he said.

“My beautiful wife Amy is a stay-at-home mom. She works harder than any of us! I have three sons, Brennan, 11, Nolan, 6, and Nate, 3,” he said.

A native of Memphis, Scott Blakely came to Madison from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for a radio management position. He also announces for the Madison Dolphins swim team.

Bob Jones Principal Robby Parker also acknowledged former announcer Richard Travers. “Coach Travers has been the voice of the Patriots for a number of years,” Parker said. “I’m very thankful for his dedication to the students of Bob Jones.”

Parker sees Blakely’s work as “an opportunity to announce for the best team in North Alabama.”
