‘The Irish Nutcracker’ to visit Madison Public Library

A local troupe will present a Christmas tradition with a definite Irish slant at Madison Public Library.

Fitness Arts Center will preview its upcoming production of “The Irish Nutcracker” on Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“This costumed interpretation of ‘The Nutcracker’ will bring a delightfully Irish style to the holiday classic,” youth services librarian Mandy Pinyan said. “Come see an Irish twist on the traditional Nutcracker ballet that features authentic step dancing and Celtic music.”

“You can meet the costumed performers and learn about Irish dance,” Pinyan said. “Guests can have cookies as we experience this holiday treat. Families will have photo opportunities with performers so just bring your camera.”

At the end of the event, a lucky guest will win a raffle for a family four-pack of tickets to the actual, full production of “The Irish Nutcracker” on Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at Columbia High School in Huntsville.

Fitness Arts Center held auditions for “The Irish Nutcracker” in May for rehearsals throughout summer and fall. This versatile center for the performing arts offers programs for the serious dancer, along with individuals who simply want to take classes for recreational purposes. Irish dance is their specialty.

The center’s address is 312 Palmer Road in Madison. For more information, call 877-360-3690, send email to info@fitnessartscenter.com or visit fitnessartscenter.com. Tickets to the product at Columbia are available online.

“Fitness Arts Center has brought Irish dancing to the Madison library in the past,” Pinyan said. “Their preview for ‘The Irish Nutcracker’ will involve audience participation.”

“Don’t miss this exclusive sneak peak for the performance of the season! Come and enjoy this fun show,” Pinyan said. First-come, first-serve seating is limited to 70 people.

Madison Public Library’s address is 130 Plaza Blvd. For more information, call Pinyan at 256-461-0046 or send email to mpinyan@hmcpl.org.
