James Clemens wrestling shows strength in first year

The James Clemens High School Wrestling Team is off to a strong start in the school’s inaugural year.

Out of the 16 teams at the 33rd annual Huntsville Invitational Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday at Huntsville High School, James Clemens was just a few points behind Bob Jones High School, who took third place overall with team total points.

Bob Jones outpointed defending 5a state champion Scottsboro and 15 other teams to take the title. Melvin Gibbons continued his undefeated streak to win the heavyweight championship and freshmen Griffin Ridgeway won his first ever title at 138 pounds.

James Clemens won six medals. Medal won include first place by Ryan Stenger, second place by Austin Clark, third place by Pieter Clark, Keoni Park and Landon Edwards, and forth place by Colton Williams.

James Clemens varsity will travel to the Cleveland Dual Tournament in Cleveland, Tenn. on Saturday, and junior varsity will visit Sparkman.

Bob Jones will travel to the Indian Classic in Kingsport, Tenn. on Friday and attend the Sparkman Invitational on Saturday.

James Clemens will host Huntsville for its next home match on Dec. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
