Jo Acres Hilby; April 8, 2013

Lena Josephine (Jo) Gibbs Acres Hilby, age 87, who lived a long and active life, died on April 8, 2013 at her home in Madison. Jo went to work in 1943 at the Union Carbide, later Martin Marietta, K25 plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn., from which she retired in 1986. During her career, Jo was a Certified Professional Secretary and Quality Control Inspector.

Jo is preceded in death by her late husband Samuel J. Acres Sr.; her father and mother Samuel and Mamie Gibbs; her sisters, Jeanette Gibbs, Selma Brown, Dorothy Scott, Martha Leaser; and her brother Arthur Gibbs.
Jo is survived by her husband Ron Hilby; her sister, Mary Gann; her sons and their wives, Samuel Acres Jr. (Lynda), and David Acres (Vicky); her grandchildren, Angela Acres and Jason Acres (Christy); her stepsons and their wives, Brian Hilby (Ching-Fen) and Tim Hilby (Ailene); her stepdaughter Julie Hilby; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at the Madison Chapel, 8521 Highway 72W, Madison, from 3 to 6 p.m. on April 10. The family also received friends at Evans Mortuary, 805 North Gateway Avenue, Rockwood, Tenn. from noon to 2 p.m. on April 13, which was followed immediately by the graveside service.
