MADISON – The nation’s most selective colleges will welcome Class of 2013 members from Bob Jones High School.

“We’ll send approximately 90 percent to college,” Principal Robby Parker said. “All state schools throughout the Southeast are filled with Bob Jones students.”

Young Yi will study physics at Princeton. Born in South Korea, Yi’s family moved to the United States in 2002. A violinist since four years old, he was co-concertmaster of the Huntsville Youth Symphony.

Another Princeton recruit, Priya Ganatra moved from Minnesota 11 years ago. “I … embrace hard work, but, in pursuit of one’s goals, I am convinced that one must capture the essence of life with enjoyment and empathy towards others,” Ganatra said.

Yvonne Bowman chose New York University’s excellent neuroscience program. “I wanted to go somewhere that I would get a lot more exposed to the world. I needed somewhere exciting. NYU definitely is a good fit for me,” Bowman said.

Accepted at Harvard, Kenneth Fu is the oldest child in his family. He has a six-year-old sister and a one-year-old brother. “I enjoy playing piano, soccer and basketball,” Fu said.

Yoo-Jung Yang will major in chemical engineering at Cornell University and then apply that work to medicine. “I accepted Cornell’s offer because of its great academics and because it’s gorgeous there,” Yang said.

David Hergenroeder is a Presidential Scholar semifinalist, National Merit Finalist, DAR award winner and participated in student government, cross-country, track and soccer. He will study engineering at Yale.

Frederick Daso’s weighted GPA is 4.81. He was involved in track, soccer and Science Olympiad and interned at SAIC. Daso will study aerospace engineering and political science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He wants a career with NASA or Space X and ultimately become an astronaut.

Madison students also will attend Brown and Vanderbilt universities and the University of California at Los Angeles.

UCLA and Vanderbilt accepted two other seniors, who opted for full scholarships to Auburn University, college and career readiness advisor Sheila Roberts said.
