MADISON – The 2013 Madison Gazebo Concert series will close on Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. with the brassy, sassy sounds of Madison Community Band.

Madison Arts Council (MAC) sponsors the gazebo concerts, which have been coordinated by MAC member Laura Pope. At the concert, concession vendors will be onsite, and MAC will offer free face painting and cookies to the youngsters.

Founded in 1993, Madison Community Band has entertained across North Alabama and south-central Tennessee.

The instrumental musicians have performed at Panoply Arts Festival, Bridge Street Town Centre and U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville; Paul Stroud Concert Series in Decatur; Summer Concert Series at Aquarium Plaza in Chattanooga, Tenn.; Host of Christmas Past Festival in Fayetteville, Tenn.; and Lakeside Summer Concert Series at Guntersville State Park.

Madison Community Band, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity, is an all-volunteer organization. Members range in age from middle-school students to retired individuals. Band members rehearse weekly to prepare for future appearances.

The band’s repertoire runs the gamut of musical genres with traditional marches and patriotic music, American and classical favorites, Broadway show tunes, television and movie themes and sounds from the Big Band era.

Dave Ryan is music director and conductor. Other officers are president Stephen Pratt, vice president Christie Gover, secretary Brian Curry, treasurer Robert Schwartz and librarian Susan Spencer.

Most members have performed in ensembles during high school and college or in professional bands or musical groups. The band gives a venue to continue playing a musical instrument in public settings.

In addition, members are active in small ensembles that feature brass and woodwind players. These ensembles perform at corporate events, weddings and community gatherings year-round.

Madison Community Band rehearses at Grace United Methodist Church, 2113 Old Monrovia Road in Huntsville on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, email to dsryan@knology.net or visit m-c-b.org.
