MADISON- Bob Jones head football coach Kevin Rose has pronounced his team ready for their first test of the season Saturday night against Enterprise in a preseason game to be played at the remodeled Crampton Bowl just three blocks from the state capital in Montgomery.

“We’re playing a quality opponent, a playoff team and that certainly gets the players attention,” Rose said. “We need this test to get ready for game speed.”

Enterprise was 7-4 last year losing in the first round of the playoffs to McGill Toolen 56-33.

“We are ready to play someone else and see where we are,” Rose said. “No matter how much you practice, when you go against yourself it’s hard to determine where you are in comparison to other high school teams.”

While this is a preseason game and doesn’t count in the team’s record it is important to several players who want to play well and get the season started off on a successful note.

Senior quarterback Tyler Whalen has not played in a game in almost a year. He has never started a varsity game but has played well in summer workouts and the spring game.

Defensive back Jarek Taylor missed a lot of work over the summer and has fell to second team. He wants his starting position back and quick.

Linebacker Nick Holman has several colleges watching his game highlights and can improve his scholarship offers with impressive games.

Rose said that the starters will get to have at it for three quarters before giving way to the backups.

“We’re going to play the game full speed for 3 quarters and in the fourth quarter let the backups get in the game and see if they are ready to play. David (Faulkner) and I both agreed to play three quarters just like a regular season game,” Rose said.

Enterprise coach David Faulkner said he is approaching it like a regular season game.

“You have to get your team ready to play a football game. If you come into this ball game with your average jamboree approach, you can get embarrassed very quickly. We will do all we can to prepare to play well and will treat it as a ballgame. It will be a playoff-caliber opponent, so it will be a playoff-caliber game,” Faulkner said.

“It really truly is an honor to bring our proud football tradition to Montgomery and play against such a quality opponent as Bob Jones High School,” Faulkner said.

The game will follow the Straughn vs Walter Welborn game at 5 p.m.
