National Weather Service warns against zero to single-digit wind chill

MADISON COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather statement about the frigid blast of cold in North Alabama.

Bitterly cold will move into the area again by tomorrow. A strong cold front will move through the Tennessee Valley tonight, followed by another surge of cold, arctic air expected on Thursday.

Temperatures on Thursday will not climb from the low to mid-20s. Northwest winds at 15 mph, with gusts to about 30 mph, will result in wind chill values throughout the day into the single digits.

On Thursday night, the wind chill values may drop from zero to five degrees. Portions of southern middle Tennessee and higher elevations may have wind chill values ranging from zero to five degrees below zero.

Winds should diminish by midnight on Thursday. Friday morning temperatures will fall between five and 10 degrees above zero in North Alabama.

Residents should protect water pipes and outdoor pets. To fight the brutal temperatures, dress in several layers and wear a hat and gloves.

Snow is not included in the immediate forecast.
