MADISON-  Bob Jones softball team came into their Wednesday night area opener riding the momentum of a strong showing at a tournament in Auburn. But in the biggest game of the young season their bats fell silent. Hazel Green pitcher Lauren Brasher worked a complete game and allowed only one run as Hazel Green won 3-1.

Katie Smith got all the runs the Trojans would need in the top of the second when she turned on a pitch from Annabelle Smith and put Hazel Green up 2-0 with a home run. Hazel Green added a run in the third inning. Bob Jones got their only run on a solo home run by Cheyenne Beacraft in the bottom of the second inning.

“We didn’t perform near up to par today, I was disappointed with our effort,” said Bob Jones coach Kent Chambers. “Their pitcher really made us look bad at the plate. We have to be more disciplined and have better pitch selection than we did today.”

Aubri James relieved Smith in the fifth inning for Bob Jones and worked three scoreless innings.

“Our pitchers did well holding them down,” Chambers said. “They hit one home run and we made some errors defensively that led to their other run.”

Sydney Booker had a double in the sixth inning but Bob Jones left two runners on base as Brasher got Annabelle Smith to fly out. Bob Jones went three up three down in the seventh.

Bob Jones will travel to Buckhorn next Tuesday for their next area game. On Thursday March 13 they will play at James Clemens in the Breast Cancer Awareness game.

“That game is always a big event for the teams and the community,” Chambers said. “Hopefully we will play a lot better then.”
