John Wilson is retiring as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Bob Jones

MADISON-  A familiar face to Bob Jones students and sports fans will be retiring at the end of the school year next week. Assistant Principal and Athletic Director John Wilson confirmed he has been selected to become the new principal at Lincoln County Middle School in Fayetteville, TN.

Wilson has 25 years in as an educator in Alabama so he qualified to retire from the Alabama system. He has been at Bob Jones for 16 years.

During his time at Bob Jones he served as an assistant football coach and defensive coordinator under former head coach Frank Sadler. He also was an assistant baseball coach when Robbie Parker was the head coach.

He then moved into administration and became Assistant Principal but stayed involved with athletics assuming the role of Athletic Director.

In his role as AD he did a little of everything from securing money at admission gates to working athlete eligibility and compliance issues.

Wilson always made it a point to work with the media to “get our young men and women the student athletes the recognition they so richly deserved.”

Wilson has attended every football game at Bob Jones during his time there. His duties as AD also required him to attend basketball games, soccer games, baseball, softball, and volleyball games.

Wilson said the state championships won in basketball by both the girls and boys teams were a high light of his years as AD as was the state championship won this year by the Bob Jones volleyball team.

“I will be at graduation,” Wilson said last week. “That will be my last official duty to send out our seniors. We are graduating together.”

“We have a great coaching staff here both coaches on faculty and non-faculty. I count on them and they count on me a great deal. Mr. Parker, I’m sure, already has a plan for someone to assume my duties so I am not in any way concerned about things going awry after I leave.”

Wilson said that his family will stay in the area and his kids will continue to go to Madison city schools. His wife teaches at Mill Creek Elementary.

Wilson has undergraduate and advanced degrees from UAH, UAB and Alabama A&M.
