HUNTSVILLE – Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater has announced auditions for their two touring groups that serve as ambassadors for the organization.

Fantasy Playhouse is recruiting male and female students who are 10 to 18 years old “to serve as company members in the Fantasy Players and Junior Players, the organization’s ambassador-touring groups,” executive director Karen Ouriel Mockensturm said.

Open auditions will be held on Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Fantasy Arts Center, 3312 Long Ave. in Huntsville. Students are not required to have formal acting experience. However, each person who auditions should prepare a one-minute monologue.

“Joining the players’ groups is a nine-month commitment. Both groups meet on Monday evenings from August through May for training and rehearsals,” Mockensturm said. Lucas Kiker and Ethan Mitchell direct the groups.

Students will experience training for advanced acting, including Shakespeare. In the past, students have performed at such venues as Panoply Arts Festival, Spring into Summer Expo, Santa’s Village and various schools throughout North Alabama.

During the 54th season of Fantasy Playhouse, students will pay a one-time $100 participation fee. Financial assistance may be available to students who demonstrate need, Mockensturm said.

Since 1961, Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater has brought the magic of theater and arts education to Tennessee Valley families. Fantasy Playhouse provides a unique opportunity for cross-generational family volunteering, stage productions, year-round academy classes, outreach into local schools and a formal mentoring program.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts and Huntsville Arts & Culture Grant Program supports this 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
