MADISON – Students at Adonai School of Ballet and Fine Arts train in an atmosphere that encourages creative worship.

“We’re not dancing for ourselves or fame but to bring honor to our God,” owner Nicole Onuszkanycz said.

‘Adonai’ is the Hebrew word for God.

Adonai School of Ballet and Fine Arts offers classical ballet, pointe, modern/contemporary, and preschool classes. For music students, classes in, piano, songwriting and guitar are open.

“All the arts were created by God to bring glory and honor to Him,” Onuszkanycz said. “Adonai’s desire is to train and raise up a generation of kids that not only are worshipers of God though dance and music but also share the hope of Jesus Christ though their art.”

Onuszkanycz strives to protect students’ innocence from inappropriate music, moves and costumes. Adonai’s “safe and loving” environment nurtures dancers interested in recreation or preparing for a profession or university setting.

Owner Nicole Onuszkanycz has taught ballet since she was a teenager and always dreamed of opening a studio. “The timing was right and an opportunity arose that made the dream a possibility,” she said.

“I really have felt God orchestrating this entire ordeal and am thankful for Him trusting me with this huge venture,” Onuszkanycz said.

Onuszkanycz trained with Huntsville Ballet (formerly Community Ballet), Georgia Ballet and numerous professional dancers and ballet company directors. She has taught ballet at schools in Huntsville, Decatur and Atlanta, along with choreographing and directing productions for churches and ballet studios.

Fellow business and studio owners have supported Onuszkanycz’s venture. “The biggest challenge has been keeping my personal time protected with my family,” she said.

Studio hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Nicole and husband Nicholas have two daughters, who are home-schooled. “One of my daughters takes ballet lessons while the other daughter takes piano lessons,” Nicole said.

The studio’s address is 7495 Wall Triana. For more information, call 256-694-0549, email to adonaischoolofballet@gmail.com or visit adonaischoolofballet.com or Facebook/adonaiballet.
