MADISON- The basketball season is still young and the Bob Jones team is still searching for the right combination of players.

That was the message Coach Graham Aderholt talked about after his team dropped a 65 -59 decision to Austin Tuesday night.

“Austin’s size hurt us on the boards and overall but we will work through it. Our goals are the same nothing’s changed, we haven’t played an area game yet. Just got to learn and move on and keep working hard,” Aderholt said.

Bob Jones led 10-9 after the first quarter. Jonathon Moss, who is in his first year as a varsity point guard put the Patriots up 15-12 on a layup. Dalton Barkley got a basket when Austin was called for goaltending and Bob Jones had a 21-14 lead, their biggest of the game.

Austin, led by Cameron Redus and Josh Pearson, both about 6-foot-4 went to work in the paint and Austin went on an 11-0 run as Bob Jones went cold creating fast break opportunities. Bob Jones closed to 25-21 at the half.

Austin stretched the lead to 42-29 in the third quarter behind Pearson who had 15 points. Guards Javian Johnson and Marcus Goode also had 15 for Austin.

Bob Jones got within 3 at 46-43 behind Barkley and Ryan Dupree. Dupreee led Patriot scorers with 16 while Barkley had 13. Barkley hit only 1 of 5 from behind the arc. Bob Jones overall hit only 3 of 14 three-point attempts. Austin shot twice as many free throws and made 13 while Bob Jones was 6 of 11.

Deondre Douglas fouled out.

Aderholt went deep on his bench searching for the right combination.

“We haven’t come anywhere close to clicking yet,” he said after the game.

Too many fouls and shooting 37% field goal percentage were too much to overcome.

Austin jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead but Bob Jones fought back to even after 3 quarters. Austin however dominated the fourth quarter as Bob Jones only scored 4 points that quarter.
