MADISON – Jordan Cozby, a junior at Bob Jones High School, has been selected as a delegate to the 53rd annual United States Senate Youth Program.

Cozby is one of two students in Alabama chosen for the “Washington Week” program during March 7-14 in the nation’s capital. The Hearst Foundations provide each student with a $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to continue coursework in government, history and public affairs.

During the weeklong program, the youth will study the federal government and people who lead it. “The overall mission of the program is to help instill more profound knowledge of the American political process and a lifelong commitment to public service,” program director Rayne Guilford said.

Cozby will meet Senators Richard C. Shelby and Jeff Sessions during the annual Senate Reception in the Kennedy Caucus Room.

At Bob Jones, Cozby serves as captain of the Debate Team; he ranked in first place individually for extemporaneous speech at the Decatur Heritage Christian Academy meet. He serves on the Student Government Association’s Executive Board. During the 2012 election, he was an organizer with Obama for America.

He works as an instructor for the Eat Pie Institute of Mathematics. Cozby is an acolyte and lector at the Church of the Nativity in Huntsville and a member of the United Way Youth Council.

Currently, he is communications director for High School Democrats of America. Cozby has served as an Alabama State House and Senate page. He writes political commentary that has appeared in numerous publications, including the “The Huffington Post.”

“Jordan is the second Bob Jones student to win this wonderful opportunity. Kyle Campbell also was selected,” College and Career Advisor Sheila Roberts said.

The students also will tour many national monuments and museums. They will lodge at the historic Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington.

James Brahm from Grissom High School is Alabama’s other delegate.
