MADISON COUNTY – The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama organization is launching their “All About Our Community Campaign” to mobilize community support for the North Alabama Food Bank.

The clubs are asking the public to collect food items for the homeless and needy.

The food drive will run during National Boys & Girls Club Week on March 23 at 8 a.m. to March 27 at 5 p.m. Each club will have collection bins.

All 10 club locations will unite to “redefine the opportunity equation for the homeless and needy by elevating and supporting the critical role of the food bank,” assistant program director Josh Bray said.

With the “All About Our Community Campaign,” the organization “will seek to ensure that the food bank is equipped with food items necessary to feed the hungry and be prepared for unforeseen events during the upcoming storm season,” Bray said.

In Madison County, Huntsville locations of Boys & Girls Clubs are Farley club, 2900 Green Cove Road; James Lane club, 103 Abingdon Ave.; Seminole club, 2201 Clinton Ave.; Sparkman Homes, 101 Mason Court; Butler Teen Center, 3401 Holmes Ave. NW; and Williams club, 155 Barren Fork Blvd.

Ardmore, Athens and Tanner in Limestone County and Scottsboro in Jackson County also have clubs.

The food bank’s most needed items are canned meat, fish, fruit and vegetables; peanut butter; soups, chili and stew; dinner kits, like Hamburger Helper, rice and noodles; and cereal. Paper products, including towels and tissue, also are needed.

The food bank cannot accept home-canned items; cans with deep dents, bulging, leaks or rust; bottles or jars with leaks or damaged seals; and expired baby food or formula.

The food bank “has provided for our organization in a time of need. We would like to return the favor,” Bray said. North Alabama Food Bank’s address is 2000 Vernon Ave. SW in Huntsville. For information, call 256-539-2256.
