MADISON – Madison Board of Education has promoted an assistant principal to lead Bob Jones High School as principal.

Sylvia Lambert has worked as assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Bob Jones this past year. “I do not take this responsibility lightly. I am Madison and Bob Jones 24-7. We have a tradition of excellence at Bob Jones to continue and build on,” she said.

With Lambert’s leadership, “academics has flourished with impressive scholarship offers to seniors, a record number of merit semifinalists at Bob Jones and 20 percent of the junior class scoring 30 or higher on their ACT,” public relations manager John Peck said.

From 1984-1990, Lambert taught and coached for Montgomery and Memphis schools. During a hiatus from teaching, she owned and managed an employment service in Huntsville.

In 2009, Lambert started teaching at Bob Jones. She transferred to James Clemens High School in 2012 as special education department lead and collaborative English and reading intervention teacher. She then served as assistant principal at Liberty Middle School.

Lambert replaces Robby Parker, now assistant superintendent for Madison City Schools. Parker led a panel of administrators, teachers, parents and a student to screen and interview candidates.

“Bob Jones has had a tradition of excellence for over a quarter of a century,” Parker said. “Ms. Lambert knows the high expectations of the community and the excellence that will be demanded in all facets of Bob Jones. She’s part of the family and of the same DNA.”

“Status quo is not in her vocabulary. We are confident Bob Jones will grow to unprecedented heights under her leadership in academics, athletics and the arts,” Parker said.

Lambert earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi, master’s degree at Auburn University at Montgomery and education specialist credentials at Alabama A&M University.

Husband Mark teaches world history and coaches girls’ basketball at Monrovia Middle School. Studying German and international trade, their son Daniel graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Daughter Shelby earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Samford University.
