MADISON – Brian Givens is now working as assistant principal at Bob Jones High School.

Last year, he served as assistant principal at Columbia Elementary School.

“Bob Jones is an elite school filled with champions inside and outside of classrooms. This opportunity is a blessing to be able to serve not only in an administrative role but overseeing passions, such as curriculum and instruction,” Givens said.

“The culture and climate at Bob Jones is one in which I am privileged to now be apart of,” Givens said. “I look forward to meeting students and teachers and doing what I can to build upon the existing excellence at Bob Jones High School.”

Givens’ first teaching assignment was at Central High School in Florence. In 2008, he accepted an opening at Hazel Green High School in Madison County Schools.

At Hazel Green, Givens taught government, economics and world history. He coached junior varsity baseball, varsity football, sponsored Fellowship of Christian Athletes and assisted groups, like STANDUP (Students Taking A New Direction Under Pressure) and the Alabama Reading Initiative team.

In 2012, Givens was honored as “Teacher of the Year” at Hazel Green.

Givens’ favorite teacher was Billy Randolph, his baseball and football coach and U.S. history teacher at Wilson High School in Florence. “I’ll never forget how he would motivate me, sometimes resulting in fear, but his passion for the best in everything … made me strive to better in the classroom and on the field.”

Givens earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Alabama and a master’s degree in instructional leadership at Jacksonville State University.

His wife Jana works as a registered nurse at Huntsville Hospital Heart Care center. Their son Owen recently turned two years old.
