MADISON – A season of fall activities is underway for members of Madison Station Historical Preservation Society.

At the historical society’s September meeting, a new slate of officers was nominated to begin a two-year term in January 2016. The officer slate includes president Debbie Overcash, vice president Doug Smith, secretary Beverly Young and treasurer Cindy Sensenberger.

Nominations from the floor were possible before the final vote at the society’s meeting on Oct. 22.

Members have started a publicity campaign for the Madison Christmas Magic Homes Tour 2015 on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Posters now are on view around Madison, and media outlets have been contacted for interview time.

However, society members also are emphasizing the important value of word-of-mouth endorsement in telling visitors about the nine tour homes, the historic district merchants’ Open House, Edwardian-costumed Street Singers and the Front Porches of Madison, all part of the homes tour.

On Nov. 11, tickets will go on sale for $15 at Whistle Stop Sweet Shop, Madison Station Antiques and Main Street Cafe. Day-of-tour ticket sales will be held at the Roundhouse on Front Street. Proceeds will benefit Madison historic district projects.

Opie Balch Realty and Madison Station Antiques are sponsors for the home tour.

Groups are contacting Street Singers’ co-chairperson Lisa Patrick for their schedule slots for singing during the tour. Some slots remain open. To contact Patrick, email to lisa.g.patrick@gmail.com.

“To-date, over five historic district home owners have signed up to decorate and spotlight their porches throughout December,” Front Porches of Madison chairperson Erica Hand said. “We fully expect many others to join in this welcoming project. Please note that visitors are to view decorated porches from the streets only.”

To contact Hand, email to ericahand@att.net.
