MADISON – Members of Madison Community Band (MCB) have been rehearsing to fine tune their performance for their upcoming spring concert and summer concert season.

The annual MCB Spring Concert will launch their 2016 concert season on April 5 at 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 2113 Old Monrovia Road in Huntsville. Admission is free. The concert is open to the public.

“This year’s MCB Spring Concert salutes John Williams’ notable career as composer, conductor and director,” MCB announcer Bryan Cobb said.

“The band invites the audience to join them on a musical journey through time and space; history; war and politics; drama; comedy; fantasy and science fiction; magic; heroes and villains; love; friendship; thrills; chills and wonders; and triumph of the human spirit,” Cobb said. “All of this and more can be found in the music of John Williams.”

Over the course of his career, Williams has composed television and film themes and scores, fanfares, symphonies, concertos and jazz works. “MCB’s concert spotlights, with one exception, his remarkable body of work in scoring motion pictures,” Cobb said. “Numbers in the program, although just a small sample of his work, highlight music Williams created over a 36-year period.”

Williams started with television themes, like “Lost in Space” and “The Time Tunnel,” and advanced to movie scores, like “Jaws,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Star Wars.”

MCB’s program will include “Superman,” “Jurassic Park,” “E.T.,” and the “Harry Potter” series, among others.

MCB’s summer concerts will open at Bridge Street Town Centre on May 28. The next gig will be the Memorial Day commemoration in downtown Madison on May 30. Their Madison Gazebo Concert in downtown Madison will be June 2.

MCB then will travel to Stone Bridge Park in Fayetteville, Tenn. on June 7. On July 18, the band will play at Founder’s Park Amphitheater in Decatur.

For the Christmas season, MCB will perform at Host of Christmas Past, Fayetteville, Tenn., Nov. 12; Grace UMC, Dec. 6; and Bridge Street, Dec. 10.
