MADISON COUNTY – This weekend, plan to go early to the library to check out that can’t-put-down best seller and a season’s worth of “Homeland” or “Law and Order” to binge watch.

All 12 branch locations of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library system will be closed on April 30 for an important electrical upgrade.

“A new generator will be installed at the downtown Huntsville library, 915 Monroe St., on April 30,” communications director Ann Marie Martin said. “The installation will cause electrical interruptions that will affect all Internet-dependent services throughout the system.”

The electrical upgrade will include check-in and check-out services, online databases and other daily operations within the library buildings.

Patrons can continue to access the website hmcpl.org and library accounts online from locations other than the library on April 30.

“Patrons who have materials checked out that have a due date of April 30 will be given an extra day to return the items. The new due date – with no late fines – will be May 1 and will be automatically adjusted,” Martin said.

The library system will return to normal operating hours on May 1.

Huntsville-Madison County Public Library provides outreach services, a BookMobile and Book Bike, online services, training, an extensive digital collection, public-use computers, free Wi-Fi, meeting spaces and other options. For more information, visit hmcpl.org.
