MADISON – Bob Jones High School will host the sixth annual Run to Rescue 5K on Aug. 6. The event will benefit the Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville.

The race is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. from the Bob Jones campus. The run will raise funds and awareness for the homeless and recovering men, women and children in North Alabama and South Tennessee, event director Tonia C. Beverly said.

Registration closes on Aug. 4. As in years past, Bob Jones Track and Cross Country team and coaches will conduct duties of race marshals and timing. The registration fee is $30. To register, visit run2rescue.tk.

The race is mixed trail and paved street course and presents a fun and different running experience. “There is a huge running population in the Tennessee Valley. People who love to walk, jog, skip or stroll are welcome to join us as well,” Beverly said.

The course begins on the soccer field and covers a portion of Bob Jones cross-country course. After doubling back, the course becomes sidewalk/pavement and will take participants through the soccer field parking lot, tunnel and around the school building.

Fellow staffer Cara Henderson said, “Run to Rescue is a great way for runners to do what they love and bring hope to the hopeless in our community.”

Packet pickup is scheduled on Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Downtown Rescue Mission, 1400 Evangel Drive NW in Huntsville. Another pickup will be held on Aug. 5 at 1st Place Athletics, 805 Regal Drive, Suite 2, Huntsville from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Runners cannot pick up packets at the race.

For more than 30 years, Downtown Rescue Mission has saved numerous lives and has had a profound impact on thousands of others by providing Christ-filled, enriched and compassionate services to those in desperate need.
