HUNTSVILLE – The services and care of the 305 8th Street facility soon will expand with the construction of Nora’s House.
Construction started in October for Nora’s House, which is under construction directly across the street from the 305 8th Street facility.
305 8th Street is a faith-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides a home and family for disabled adults. “Its latest project, Nora’s House, will be a reality, thanks to the generosity of many Huntsville and Madison County community partners,” executive director Andrea Williams said.
Estimate completion date is spring 2017.
Nora’s House will expand 305 8th Street’s services to include eight beds for new residents with disabilities who do not meet state-waivered requirements and need 24-hour supervision.
“Disabled adults who are denied services based on a point difference in their IQ makes them ineligible for group home care, day services and direct care – thus leaving a vulnerable population of adults in need,” Williams said.
“Some women on our waiting list have been awaiting placement for over three years,” Williams said.
Currently, 305 8th Street provides 24-hour supervision and care for 15 adults and supportive care to five residents living off-site. “For the people on our waiting list, Nora’s House is the answer to their families’ prayers, who have nowhere else they can turn to for supportive housing and care,” Williams said.
Major partners for Nora’s House are The Jane K. Lowe Foundation, Legacy Homes, Madison County Commission, commissioners Bob Harrison and Roger Jones, Leadership Huntsville/Madison County volunteers, The Anne Cary Walker Management Trust, Venturi Brighter Day Foundation, PAK Legacy, Liberty Steel Fabrication, Huntsville Broadcast Association, Torch Technologies, Troy 7, Dynetics, Golden Construction and 305 8th Street’s board of directors and staff.
