Youth enjoy Optimists’ SOS

MADISON – Youngsters and older children enjoyed an enjoyable and educational time during the 15th annual Safety Optimist Style or SOS at Dublin Park on May 6.

Madison Optimist Club sponsors SOS to reinforce safety procedures for everyday life and to allow youth to meet emergency personnel.

“The wonderful weather enhanced the youngsters’ enjoyment of meeting the area’s first responders in a fun and informative session, along with refreshments, bouncy houses, face painting, balloons, magic and other entertainment,” Optimist spokesperson Vic van Leeuwen said.

“Should an emergency happen, the youngsters who attended have already met first responders and know that they’re there to help,” van Leeuwen said.

“After enjoying all the activities available to do, there were prizes for most of the youngsters, including two bicycles. The bicycle winners were Samihan Biswas and Minnie Cliff,” he said.

Madison Optimist Club, which is an arm of Optimist International, meets monthly on first and third Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. West End Grill on Old Madison Pike hosts the meetings. For more information, call 256-772-8148 or visit optimist.org.
