Bob Jones has two seven-on-seven tournaments this week

MADISON-  It is the busiest week of the summer for the Bob Jones football team. Head Coach Kevin Rose and staff are busy getting two teams ready to compete in seven-on-seven passing tournaments.

Rose and defensive coordinator Bryan Styles will take the varsity squad to Hoover to the 2017 USA Football 7on7 National Championship where 40 of the top high school teams from across the south will compete over three days starting Thursday.  Teams are guaranteed 7 games.

“Every team we play will be as good as us or better,” Rose said this week. “You could go down there with a good football team and lose every game. These are the 40 best teams in America. I don’t care about the result. We could go 0-7 or 7-0 or somewhere in between. What I care about is when we leave there we’re a better football team.”

Bob Jones went to a 7on7 passing tournament in Montgomery two weeks ago and won 2 games out of 6 played.

“We got a long way to go,” Rose said. “Whatever weaknesses you have will be exposed when you play the level of competition we are playing. We got some things to work on and we will go to Hoover and try to improve on those things.”

Among the players going to Hoover are quarterbacks Caden Rose and Dylan Ray, receivers Demontrez Brown, Sam Barnes, and Connor Henderson, and running backs Jaylen Williams and Isaiah Hatchett.

Listed on defense are Jayden Hill, Kade Kohler, Khalil Griffin, Nick Santillo, Luke Koger, Kyle Parker, and Terrell Jennings.

Meanwhile, assistant coach Austin Marsh will take a junior varsity squad to Madison Academy to the Rocket City 7on7 football Tournament on Friday July 14. They will compete against mainly other team’s varsity squads.

John-Michael Riley will play quarterback for Marsh’s team. Are’mon Garth and John Murray will be playing for the JV as well. It is most of the freshman team from last year. Slate Alford normally would quarterback this team but he is at a baseball showcase.

“I want to see them compete hard whether they are up 40 or down 40. We want to build that sense of competition and see who is going to help us during the year,” Marsh said.

Bob Jones has participated in a team OTA with Muscle Shoals and has one scheduled with Gardendale to wrap up the summer competition.
