Lions, Panthers make back-to-school plans

MADISON – Young teenagers and ‘tweens’ in Madison’s middle schools are preparing for their return to the classroom on Aug. 7.

At Discovery Middle School, fee payment day is scheduled for July 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the media center. Parents can pay by cash or check.

Also on July 25, children who are attending Madison City Schools for the first time can attend new student orientation from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Discovery media center. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., all seventh-graders and their parents should plan for seventh-grade orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the media center.

Discovery eighth-graders can pick up class schedules on July 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then on July 27, seventh-graders can get their schedules from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for fall semester classes. Students can reserve a locker when they obtain class schedules or wait until school resumes. Students will receive physical education uniforms during their PE class.

Discovery administrators are Principal Kimberly Stewart, Assistant Principal Kevin Wilson and Counselor Kelle Moody.

Discovery Open House on Aug. 3 will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Liberty Middle School personnel mailed fee schedules to student families on July 21, and the website for online fee payment now is open. In addition, families who prefer to pay in person can visit Liberty’s campus on July 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and pay by cash or check. On this day, students will not receive schedules, locker assignments or any other items.

Also on July 25, Liberty will host seventh-grade orientation from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gym. Orientation for new students who have never attended Liberty will be held on July 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gym.

On Aug. 2 at Liberty, Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. is a time dedicated for all students and parents or /guardians to visit the campus and meet the faculty and staff. Using their schedules, students can guide their families to each classroom for their subjects. Students will receive their schedules, lockers and planners.

Liberty’s administrators are Principal Shannon Brown, Assistant Principal Jamie Golliver and Counselor Karen Clayton.

Supply lists for students’ classes are available on Facebook pages for Liberty and Discovery.
