Cross Country Sectional Meet Readies For State Meet

Cross Country Sectional Meet Readies For State Meet

HUNTSVILLE- Eight schools participated in the Class 7A Section 4 cross country meet last week at John Hunt Park in Huntsville. The James Clemens girls’ squad finished third to lead the local squads and will have 10 individuals at the State Meet this Saturday in Moulton.

The Lady Jets posted 87 points for the third place finish behind first place Huntsville (18) and runner-up Hewitt-Trussville (74). Bob Jones finished sixth (143) and Sparkman seventh (153). Top runner for James Clemens was Elizabeth Holcomb who posted her season-best time of 20-minutes, 35-seconds placing her tenth. Kaylee Stewart of Sparkman was eighth (19:56) and Hannah Thuss of Bob Jones was sixteenth (20:53).

In Boys, Huntsville, ranked No. 1 in the state, was tops with 23 points followed by Grissom (62), Hewitt-Trussville (82) while Bob Jones was fourth (82), James Clemens fifth (137) and Sparkman sixth (172). Top local performer was Jean Pierre Leroux of Bob Jones who finished sixth (16:22). Tops for James Clemens and who qualified for the State Meet was A.J. Sheldrick who finished 21st with a personal best time of 17:20.

The State Meet will be held at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Moulton of Lawrence County.
