Bob Jones Volleyball’s Tralongo Signs Scholarship

MADISON- Leighanna Tralongo’s final season of high school volleyball was indeed a good one after she transferred to Bob Jones High after three seasons at nearby Sparkman. Tralongo posted respectable statistics during the 2018 season for the Patriots helping the squad to a state runner-up finish.

The 17-year old Tralongo used the spectacular season to earn a scholarship to Gadsden State Community College which she signed in a recent ceremony held at Bob Jones.

“I learned how to play volleyball at a church camp and began playing in a recreational league by age 12 and then began club team volleyball before making my way to Monrovia Middle School where I also played,” said Tralongo, daughter of Pat and Kim Tralongo, and twin sister to Luke, who plays baseball for Bob Jones. She also has two older twins, Alison and Sam, both of whom have already graduated high school

Tralongo played three seasons for the Sparkman Senators before her family moved to Madison where she joined the Patriots under head coach April Marsh. Tralongo said, “I never really believed in myself until this year and Coach Marsh poured her heart to me and helped me get the confidence I needed. Making the move to Bob Jones was a better fit for our family.”

The 5-foot-6, 140-pound Tralongo currently rides through her senior year at Bob Jones with a grade point average of 4.2, which will lead her well into her pre-med studies where she has her sights set on becoming a veterinarian.

While her play at libero and setter for the Patriots, Tralongo came away with season stats of 37 aces, 873 assists, 259 digs and 39 kills. “She’s a hard worker with a great attitude,” said Marsh after Tralongo’s signing.

In her freshman season at Sparkman she underwent knee surgery for a lateral release to deal with her kneecap disability where the kneecap would fall out of place on a regular basis. Through hard work and dedication, as well as, the personal confidence she gained this past season, Tralongo will play at the next level for the Lady Cardinals.

“I’m proud of what I accomplished and of my efforts, which included lots of work staying after many of my practice sessions,” added Tralongo.

Besides her play on the volleyball court, Tralongo is a member of the Senior Modeling Team. She works with photographer Melissa Berry and concentrates on destination and portrait modeling. Tralongo said she would love to continue modeling, but is looking forward to furthering her education.
