Bob Godsey Named Head Football Coach At Madison Academy

MADISON- Two-time Class 5A Coach of the Year Bob Godsey has been named the new head football coach at Madison Academy. Godsey comes to the Mustangs from Hartselle High where he coached 16 seasons earning a record of 141-51 including the 2011 Class 5A State Championship with a perfect 15-0 season.

“We are honored to have Coach Godsey join the Mustang family,” said Madison Academy President Dr. Terry Davis. “His experience and success as a football coach is well-recognized and his lifelong commitment to developing young men of character fits well with our mission at Madison Academy.”

Godsey fills the vacancy after three-year head coach Grant Reynolds left the head coach position to take a similar spot in Chattanooga.

Godsey played quarterback at Wilson High and for Troy State from 1986-1989. He has master degrees from both the University of North Alabama and Jacksonville State University. He became head coach at Brooks High in 1998 and his five-year tenure with the Lions produced an overall record of 42-15.

He took over the Hartselle program in 2003. His 2008 team finished the regular season undefeated before losing in the third round of the state playoffs. His 2011 squad defeated Vigor 13-3 in the championship contest.

He and his wife, Amanda, have three children.
