April Marsh To Leave Bob Jones Volleyball And Take Position at Athens High

MADISON- “They made an offer I couldn’t refuse,” said April Marsh of her decision to accept the head coach position for the Athens High volleyball program, thus leaving the similar position at Bob Jones High.

Marsh informed Bob Jones of her decision and the school immediately sent out a coach position opening via Twitter.

Marsh spent nine seasons with the Patriots winning the 2013 Class 6A State Championship and was state runner-up three times including the last two years in Class 7A losing to McGill-Toolen in both state finals. She was named the 7A State Coach of the Year in 2017 and the 6A State Coach of the Year in 2011. Her overall record as a head coach is 591-164.

“Talking with Athens I saw they are 100-percent committed to building athletics, especially the volleyball program,” said Marsh who will teach physical education along with her duties as head coach. “I wasn’t looking to leave Bob Jones, but Athens made the job offer intriguing and I’m excited about the opportunity to go in and build a successful program.”

Marsh is expected to receive a pay raise to coach the volleyball program at Athens High.

“I loved the small-town feel of Athens and I think this will be a great move for my family, too,” added Marsh. “At Bob Jones, I’ve always had great relationships with the players and their parents, as well as, the administration within the Madison City Schools.”

Marsh met with her current team at Bob Jones and stated the conversation she had with her players was certainly a tough one and many of the girls broke down in tears after finding out their head coach was leaving.

“I want to thank everyone at Bob Jones for their support during my time here, but taking the Athens job is a great opportunity for me and my career,” said Marsh.

Marsh will take over the Class 6A program that posted an under-500 record and lost in the regionals last season. She will remain at Bob Jones through the current school year and then move on to the position she just couldn’t refuse.
