Bob Jones prevails against Grissom, Rose injured

Update: Caden Rose who suffered a lacerated spleen Saturday will be going home today. “The scan from this morning was good,” Bob Jones’ Coach Jared Smith said Monday. “No change, no more bleeding, no surgery! Bob Jones Baseball and the Roses appreciate all of the prayers. They definitely worked!!‬”

Rose will be out the remainder of the season.

MADISON – Both Bob Jones and Grissom had their offenses going on Saturday, but Bob Jones eventually prevailed 10-6.

Grissom fired up the offense in the second inning for an early 2-0 lead. The Pats and Tigers each scored a run in the bottom of the second and top of the third for a 3-1 score in Grissom’s favor. Bob Jones pulled away for good with six runs in the third inning.

In the third Mitchell Daly drew a walk, scoring one run, Stuart Edge drew a walk, scoring one run, Brett Brosnan singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs for Bob Jones.

Bob Jones took a 10-3 lead into the seventh inning, and Grissom scored three runs in the seventh inning to make the final score of 10-6. Luke Tralongo led the Patriots to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He surrendered three runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two. Thomas Ballard, Andrew Wright, and John Michael Riley all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Cam Hill, John Herron, Edge, Slate Alford, Brosnan, and Daly each collected one hit to lead Bob Jones. Edge, Daly, and Hill all had doubles. Brosnan finished with three RBIs to lead the team.

Bob Jones returns to play on Monday as they travel to Vanderbilt University to take on #1 Baylor School, TN at 5:30. Area play resumes on Tuesday at Bob Jones versus James Clemens at 5:30.

On a concerning note, Bob Jones junior Caden Rose suffered a severe injury Saturday morning after being hit by a baseball while throwing batting practice.

Patriot Coach Jared Smith said Rose was struck by a baseball on his left side in the ‘perfect’ spot for the location of the spleen.

“Doctors have said that his spleen was already inflamed due to a recent illness, which led to a grade two laceration of the spleen,” Smith said. “Thankfully, the laceration isn’t currently bleeding and has clotted itself.”

Smith said that as of Sunday morning Rose remains stable and his pain has started to subside. He is currently in ICU and will remain there for at least one more day for monitoring, followed by 2-3 more days in a regular room.

“Please continue to pray for no additional bleeding, which will mean no surgery,” Smith said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
