Best Buddies to host The Beasley Brothers concert April 26
MADISON – The Madison Best Buddies program will be hosting a Spread the Word Inclusion Concert April 26, 7-9 p.m., at James Clemens High School. The event will feature The Beasley Brothers, a rock band formed by Madison natives Jackson and Lawson Beasley.
Best Buddies creates one-to-one friendships between students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and their typical peers. Madison City Schools is the first school chapter in Alabama to be among the 2,500 chapters worldwide.
Since its launch in fall 2018, the Madison chapter has held bowling get-togethers, dances, cupcake wars, a book club at the library – and even led the football team out on the field for the Bob Jones versus James Clemens game.
“From what I have seen of the interactions, the benefits are immeasurable. These new buddies and peer buddies engage regularly in activities that build confidence and life-long friendships,” said Madison City Schools Superintendent Robby Parker. “I’m so proud of what this program is doing for our students with and without disabilities.”
The Spread the Word Inclusion Concert is a family-friendly event. It will include a global Best Buddies ambassador. Tickets, which are $15, will be available at both high schools or at the door. Ticket purchases or donations can also be made at www.bestbuddies.org/2018/01/12/madison-city-spread-the-word-concert.
