Bestselling author Patti Henry to appear at library

MADISON – A “New York Times” bestselling author will appear in Madison on June 18 for a “Community Conversation” about her books.

Madison Public Library will host Patti Callahan Henry at noon on June 18. Doors will open at 11:45 a.m.

“We are thrilled to welcome Patti Callahan Henry to Huntsville (and Madison) for our next Community Conversation. Huntsville Library Foundation is co-hosting this event with independent bookseller, The Snail on the Wall owned by Lady Smith,” Christina L. Tabereaux said. Tabereaux serves as Director of Development for Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

“The foundation loves to host these author events to increase community awareness of the foundation’s efforts to support Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and its 12 branches. These author talks are always a great opportunity for us to bring people in to see the library’s terrific locations, and, obviously, offer exposure to best-selling authors such as Ms. Henry,” Tabereaux said.

Henry will discuss her recent work, “The Favorite Daughter.” (Goodreads Author) This lush, heart-wrenching novel examines the power of memory, meaning of family and learning to forgive, according to Henry.

Set In 2009, the book follows Lena Donohue, who left the small town of Watersend, S.C. after a painful, wedding-day betrayal. Donohue reinvented herself in New York City as a freelance travel writer.

Donohue takes a rare trip home with news of her father’s declining health. She confronts her estranged sister and her brother who runs the family’s Irish pub and has carried the burden of his sisters’ disagreements.

While Alzheimer’s disease slowly steals their father’s memories, the siblings rush to preserve his life in stories and in photographs. His secret past brings Lena’s own childhood into focus, leading Lena to discover the true meaning of home. (goodreads.com)

As an undergraduate, Henry earned a bachelor’s degree at Auburn University and a master’s degree at Georgia State University. After working as a pediatric clinical nurse specialist, she now writes full time. She, her three children and husband lives in both Mountain Brook, Ala. and Bluffton, S.C.

Each ticket costs $25 and includes a copy of “The Favorite Daughter.” Henry will sign books after the luncheon. Snail on the Wall will sell “Becoming Mrs. Lewis.” Participants can buy a boxed lunch from Jason’s Deli for $10.
