One man in critical condition after standoff with police

MADISON – Madison Police said a situation involving an armed subject who had barricaded himself inside an apartment has ended.

Police had responded to a call at Charleston Oaks Apartments about a suicidal person Tuesday afternoon. The apartment complex is located off Kyser Blvd near Sullivan Street.

When officers arrived the subject had barricaded himself inside the apartment and was armed with a gun.

During the standoff, officers heard a gunshot and evacuated the surrounding neighbors.

Once the SWAT team arrived shortly before 4 p.m., officers were able to enter the apartment. There they found the subject with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in critical condition.

Madison Fire and Rescue, HEMSI and the Madison Police Department SWAT team assisted the Madison Police in the situation.
