Madison man dies after being found unresponsive in Morgan County jail
DECATUR – A Madison man died Wednesday afternoon after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Morgan County Jail.
According to Mike Swafford, the public information officer with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Issac Newton Throckmorton, 44, was in the medical unit of the jail when he was found unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were initiated by medical personnel and he was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“Shortly afterwards, Sheriff Puckett and his command staff arrived at the jail along with Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chun,” Swafford said. “Morgan County Sheriff investigators secured the scene and began an investigation. The next of kin has been notified as we await the results of an autopsy to verify the cause of death. “
Throckmorton was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 22 by the Decatur Police Department on three warrants for failing to appear. The initial charges were for DUI, open container and failure to comply with Interlock requirements.
Swafford said that upon arrest, Throckmorton was booked into the Morgan County Jail and placed in the medical unit on Monday after observation. He remained there until he was found unresponsive.
