Mustang Mud Run challenges participants with mud, water and obstacles

MADISON – Entrants in the Mustang Mud Run will face mud, slimy bogs, creek water and an obstacle course, along with a sense of fulfillment in helping people in need.

Presented by Madison Academy, the Mustang Mud Run 5K is a premier event for North Alabama. The 5K obstacle course (that’s 3.1 miles) is situated on Madison Academy’s campus and will challenge participants with 22 obstacles along — and through — Indian Creek and adjacent woodlands.

Packet pickup will be held on April 15 from noon to 5 p.m. at Madison Academy. On run day, packets will be available at the registration area.

The run on April 16 will open at 8:45 a.m. and close at 11 a.m. In recent years, the Mud Run has attracted an average of 250 race participants, plus 60 volunteers.

The 5K is open to anyone at least 12 years old. Runners can expect to slip, slide, climb, jump and swing their way to the finish. Entrants will run multiple heats, including one for elite racers and an open heat for 12-years-old and older. (mustangmudrun.com)

The course has more than 20 obstacles that will challenge the runners to use strategy and strength. The obstacles include the Tarzan Twist, Leap of Faith, Mud Pits, Walls of Jericho, Grime Climb, Creek Crossing, Hole-y Moley and Swamp Sludge.

Officials urge participants to attempt the obstacles; however, they understand that individuals may have a limitation and won’t complete the obstacle.

In addition, six-year-olds and older can participate in the Lil’ Muddy 1K heat. Parents who run in an earlier heat can run again for free with their ‘Lil’ Mudders.’

All participants will receive a T-shirt and a medal.

Registration fee for individuals is $55. For Lil’ Muddy, fee is $25. The family pack of four will receive a $5 discount per registration. Parking fee is $10 per vehicle, cash only.

Group rates are available for teams of 10 or more. To register, email race officials. For more information, visit mustangmudrun.com.
