Athletic Hall Of Fame Accepting Nominations

MADISON- The Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for its Class of 2023. The newest inductees will be determined by a vote of the Hall of Fame board of directors and be inducted in ceremonies held on Monday, April, 10, 2023 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

Founded in 1989, the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame has honored more than 400 individuals and teams as the organization recognizes top athletic achievement in addition to the inductees’ contributions to the community and their overall character. Hall of Fame board members take each year’s nominations and, through an extensive elimination process over several weeks, vote on those most deserving to be included among the Hall.

Those interested in nominating a candidate can do so online through the Hall’s website: hmcahof.com or print and mail the form found on the website. Those submitting nominations should provide supporting documentation, with information on the nominee’s career.

Among the rules for consideration for the Hall of Fame:

  • A nominee who performed their athletic achievements in Madison County must be a current or former resident for five continuous years.
  • A nominee whose achievements were primarily performed elsewhere must be a resident of Madison County for 10 continuous years.
  • A nominee must be at least 40 years of ago at the time of induction.
  • A coach or administrator must have a minimum of 25 years of service to be eligible if they are not retired.

The Hall of Fame has a special place in Huntsville as the organization’s shrine and wall of inductees is located on Airport Road just west of Memorial Parkway near John Hunt Park. The location is open 24 hours a day and is free to the public to visit.

For more information, contact Hall of Fame chairman Vann Pettaway (vann.pettaway@gmail.com) or board member Mark McCarter (markfmccarter@gmail.com).
