James Clemens HOSA overshadows conference competitors

MADISON – James Clemens High School students raked in attention and honors at the HOSA State Leadership Conference.

Approximately 1,800 Alabama students and teachers traveled to Montgomery to participate in two days of competitive events and advanced leadership study at the 2024 HOSA conference on Feb. 28-March 1.

James Clemens students compiled outstanding results, co-sponsor Ashley Steinert said. “First of all, we had 45 students to compete, which was the most competitors from any school within Alabama. Secondly, we had 30 students place in the top 6 in their competitive events, and 22 students within the top 3.”

“This is a huge accomplishment and a true testament to our students’ hard work and dedication to HOSA future health professionals,” Steinert said.

Students competed in healthcare-related categories:

* Siya Patel — Behavioral Health, sixth place.

* Nirban Bajaj, Chris Lobo and Alex Kulkarni — Creative Problem-Solving, first place.

* Sahithi Mynampally, Claire Jeong and Disha Patel — Creative Problem-Solving, fourth place.

* Carter Gjesvold — Cultural Diversity & Disparities in Healthcare, first place.

* Katie Berger — Cultural Diversity & Disparities in Healthcare, third place.

* Jace Yamaguchi — Dental Science, third place.

* Emmy Harrison and Kaela Cronan — Emergency Medical Technician, third place.

* Aasim Musani – Epidemiology, first place.

* Renee Drayton – Epidemiology, third place.

* Matthew Ponder — Healthy Living, first place.

* Sahishnu Saha — Human Growth & Development, second place.

* Bhavya Chalasani — Medical Law & Ethics, first place.

* Ria Baddam — Medical Law & Ethics, fifth place.

* Neyan Sezhian — Medical Math, first place.

* Saahil Shaik — Medical Math, second place.

* Ana Lara — Medical Math, fourth place.

* Manasa Vadapalli — Medical Terminology, first place.

* Oviya Gowder — Medical Terminology, second place.

* Amna Minhas — Medical Terminology, fourth place.

* Angela Ai – Nutrition, first place.

* Riya Naphade – Nutrition, third place.

* Abdullah Shaikh – Nutrition, fourth place.

* Carlin Chacko – Pathophysiology, third place.

* Jayda Yamaguchi — Physical Therapy, second place.

* Chloe Wells — Veterinary Science, second place.

“James Clemens is the place to be,” Steinert said. A registered nurse, Steinert is co-advisor for HOSA and National Technical Honor Society and teaches health science courses.
