Patriots pound Bearcats 48-12 in Thursday opener

MADISON – Bob Jones left no doubt in its opening game of the season with a sound beating of the visiting Cullman Bearcats 48-12 on Thursday.

Madison City Stadium glowed under the lights as a new football season for the Patriots commenced in front of excited fans.

The wind moved around the stands as waning August began to give way to a cooler September just around the bend.

The new giant scoreboard in the corner of the field blared overbearing tones of color as the game kicked off with a renewed energy to it.

There was an air of hope about both sides like these schools could feel something special was about to happen.

It didn’t take long for something special to happen as Patriots senior quarterback Johnston Jackson found his target, the junior receiver, Rhys Dorsey for what appeared to be a routine short pass.

When Dorsey grabbed the ball he turned up field and took off like a rocket.

The wideout was darting by defenders like they were moving a half speed.

As Dorsey bolted down the field, the stripes of the yards flew past him like someone had spun a globe.

The numbers counted down as the Patriot carried the pigskin 90 yards for the opening drive touchdown for Bob Jones.

This score set the tone for what would be an explosive offensive showing for the home side while the Patriot defense held the Bearcats to a measly 12 points.
