UAH women’s basketball starts GSC play with back-to-back wins for first time since 2018-19

HUNTSVILLE – The UAH women’s basketball team blazed past Valdosta State by a final score of 73-53 in the first home Gulf South Conference game of the season at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday afternoon. UAH improves to 5-1 (2-0 GSC), while VSU slides to 6-2 (1-1 GSC).

This is the first time UAH has started conference play with back-to-back wins since the 2018-19 campaign, as the Blue & White have outscored its GSC opposition 81-38 through two games.

First-year head coach Allen Sharpe’s squad featured five players with 10 points or more against the Blazers, guided by Lili Wilken at a team-high 18 points as she went 6-for-13 from the field and 2-for-3 on three-pointers.

Wilken has now scored 18 or more points in back-to-back games as she pushes her season streak of double-digit scoring to six games.

Millie Brown excelled from beyond the arc for the Blue & White, going 5-for-8 on three-pointers for 15 points on Saturday. Brown is 13-for-22 over the last two games on three-point attempts.

Haley Nichols rated third on the roster with 12 points, followed by Alexis Woods at 11 and Bella White with 10 to round out UAH’s double-digit scorers on Saturday. Overall, UAH shot 51.9 percent (27-52) from the field and 43.8 percent (7-16) on three-pointers, while limiting VSU to 43.4 percent (23-53) on field goals.

UAH dominated on the boards against Valdosta State, outrebounding the Blazers 37-21 for the contest. Bella White led the Chargers with nine rebounds, followed by Nichols and Woods with six boards apiece. White and Nichols additionally led the Chargers with three assists.

The Chargers also held the edge over the Blazers in points in the paint (34-32) and second-chance points (11-4).
