Brittany Cox honored, ‘overwhelmed’ by ‘Teacher of the Year’ selection at Discovery

MADISON – In her work as an educator, Brittany Cox believes a school day has been successful “when students are fully engaged in the lesson, genuinely enjoy the learning process and leave the classroom feeling accomplished or inspired.”

“In those moments, I know I made the right instructional choices and that the outcome was meaningful and effective,” she said. Cox is “Teacher of the Year” for 2025 at Discovery Middle School.

“I was surprised, overwhelmed and truly honored to learn that I had been selected as Teacher of the Year. It meant so much to know that my colleagues think so highly of me,” Cox said.

Before joining Madison City Schools, Cox already had gained various experiences in education. She taught English as a Second Language or ESL for grades K-12 in Madison County.

In addition, Cox served as a reading strategies and math coach in Russell County and taught ESL for grades 6-8 at a Newcomer school in Bay County, Fla. She also taught ESL for grades K-2 in Fort Payne City Schools and for grades K-8 in Warren County, Tenn.

Cox was attracted to teaching in MCS because of the district’s high academic standards and the opportunity to teach ESL at her favorite grade level — middle school.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Recently, she completed a master’s degree at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Cox is originally from a small, rural town — Coalmont, Tenn.

Her husband, Matthew Caraccioli, works as a mechanical engineer for the U.S. Army.

Few people know that Brittany is a huge fan of Elvis Presley! “If I am watching television, it is most likely the Food Network, and I also enjoy shopping” . . . maybe for bargains on Elvis memorabilia.
