Madison Methodist Church welcomes public to Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 27
MADISON – Madison Methodist Church, 127 Church St., will host a “Veterans Appreciation Dinner” to show gratitude to men and women in military service. The event’s intent is to honor individuals who have completed military service and those in active service. This free event will be open to the public.
The dinner is scheduled for Sept. 27. Doors will open at 4 p.m. The dinner will start at 5 p.m. when members of Madison Methodist will treat guests to a buffet dinner. The No Name String Band will entertain with live music.
The event’s guest speaker will be Dr. Harry L. Hobbs. He holds two doctoral degrees — a Doctor of Business Administration or DBA and credentials for a Society for Human Resource Management – Senior Certified Professional or SHRM-SCP. Hobbs also is a military veteran.
Hobbs has worked in the fields of education and public service. He is a member of the Alabama Workforce Development Board and Alabama Commission on Higher Education.
His resume documents Hobbs’ work in various capacities, including high school teacher, Dean of the Huntsville site of Florida Institute of Technology and spokesperson for Huntsville Police Department and Huntsville Utilities.
Since 2018, Hobbs has worked as Vice President of Employee Engagement for Huntsville Utilities. He has dedicated his career to contributing to the development and well-being of the communities he serves.
In addition, Hobbs is a lifetime member of Association of the United States Army or AUSA; Military Officers Association of America or MOAA; Warrant Officer Association or WOA; and Veterans of Foreign Wars or VFW.
In 2011, Hobbs was named “Mentor of the Year” by 100 Black Men of Huntsville. In 2012, Rotary Club of Madison honored Hobbs as “Veteran of the Year.”
Hobbs’ mentorship philosophy stems from a personal history of overcoming poverty, racism and stigma. As a biracial child raised by his grandparents in Kentucky, he shaped a leadership style grounded in empathy and empowerment.
At Madison Methodist, Rev. Joey Smith serves as pastor. Located in Madison’s historic downtown, the church stands at the corner of Church and Arnett streets.
