Holiday lights guide will take you straight to the best decorated homes
HUNTSVILLE – Thinking about hopping in the car this week to check out the beautifully decorated homes. The Rocket City Mom Holiday Decor Guide is connecting families to memories and brightening the community.
“Our holiday decoration map is one of my favorite things that we do,” said Rocket City Mom Managing Editor Rebecca Hitt. “It’s a part of our Holiday Guide; we have a form that people can fill out. There’s an article on our website that says a little bit about it. People can submit their awesome decorations and give us a little bit of information about them. Sometimes they’ll give us a picture, and then we put it on a Google map for people to access, so that you can know where all these cool decorations are.”
Hitt said the Rocket City Mom Holiday Decor Guide can help families make memories together and experience the light of community Christmas. “For a lot of parents, this is about nostalgia,” she said. “One of my favorite memories from when I was a kid was being in the car at night, and my mom would drive around in neighborhoods for us to see the decorations. And I feel like now there are more people decorating. So, we really want to emphasize as many times as we can, spend time with your family, and we really want to help facilitate that at Rocket City Mom. This is a free thing, which is always great, that you can load your car up with your kids and go around and see these fun decorations.”
As the holiday season continues, Hitt said the community is excited to have a platform to share and find holiday lights.
“People seem really excited about the map,” she said. “Every year we get 1000s of views, I think more like 10s of 1,000s of views. We have people who are re-sharing the post where we first said it was live. I’m getting new submissions that people want to put their yards up on the map as well. People seem really excited to have their yards on the maps, and then people are excited to have that map, to be able to go around and find all the amazing decorations.”
As families grow and look for resources, Hitt said Rocket City Mom is the place to explore with a variety of information and ideas for local families.
