Madison Academy alive in state softball tournament
OXFORD – Madison Academy’s quest to come out of the elimination bracket to reach the Class 3A state softball championship continues today at Choccolocco Park .
Madison Academy was set to play Wicksburg at 9 a.m. The winner then plays another elimination game against Colbert County at 10:45. The winner advances again to play Saint James in the championship round at 2 p.m. An if needed game would follow.
Thursday, the Lady Mustangs lost their opening game 5-3 to St. James but rebounded to defeat Randolph County 9-1 and Hanceville 4-0 in the double elimination tournament.
Madison Academy 4, Hanceville 0: Cataryna Schreiber struck out 12 and walked one in a one-hitter. She also hit a two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning. Evie Stephenson went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, and Blakely Beddingield had an RBI-triple among two hits in the win.
Madison Academy 9, Randolph County 1: Schreiber went the distance, allowing six hits while striking out nine with no walks. She also had two hits with a double and three RBIs.
Stephenson had two hits and a run scored, Beddingfield had two hits and Amiyah Dixon, Danielle Brown and Sydney Casmer added doubles.
St. James 5, Madison Academy 3: Schreiber went six innings, allowing three hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks. She allowed five runs, three that were earned.
Stephenson had two hits, including a double, and two stolen bases. Dixon tripled among two hits, Brown had a run-scoring triple and Schreiber and Memphis Houston had RBIs.
