Summer closing FCA events highlight of the year

MADISON – Summer is quickly coming to a close, especially within the calendar year of local school systems. Madison City Schools return to the classrooms Aug.6, Madison County Schools’ students go back to the area of learning Aug. 5 and Madison Academy will have their students arrive back on campus with a phase-in Aug. 5 and 6 with all students at their learning locations by Aug. 7.

The Northeast Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) also signal the end of summer vacation by hosting its three final events of the summer of 2026, just as the Madison County West Power Sports Camp is being held this week at Bob Jones High.

The final gatherings for the FCA begin in two weeks.

The Middle School PTL (grades 6-8) cost $200 and will be held at Madison Academy July 30-31 with hotel accommodations secured at the nearby Marriott, located at the Space & Rocket Center. Students will stay at the Marriott for the overnight stay, but the conference will held at nearby Madison Academy. The huge event will feature free games, bowling, ropes course, pizza and more. Each student will be given three tickets to the Josiah Queen concert held during the High School PTL the following weekend.

The High School PTL (grades 9-12) will be held Aug. 7-8 at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville with overnight stay at the Embassy Suites adjacent to the VBC. This year’s event will feature an incredible lineup that will challenge and inspire students to lead for their Faith on their campuses. The Friday night kickoff will include Pastor Louis Giglio, the best-selling author of over a dozen books. Giglio and his wife, Shelley, make their home in Atlanta. Since 1997, his Passion Ministry has inspired students across the country.

The PTL will also feature worship throughout the weekend led by Jeremy Rosado, an American Idol season 11 competitor. After a short musical career, he chose to get away from the limelight and dedicate his life to being “dad” for his niece after taking over legal guardianship to enable to secure a stable home life for the young girl. In 2021, getting his niece through high school and into college, Rosado began to sing again and ventured onto The Voice where he joined Kelly Clarkson’s team. He did that while serving as a worship leader at his local church in Lakeland, Fla., and he now tells his story of perseverance, sacrifice and love for both his family and music all in the journey with his Faith.

The FCA summer will come to a close on the second night of the PTL Leadership Conference on Aug. 8 with a free concert featuring Josiah Queen, one of the most impactful voices in Christian Music. His debut album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums Chart and tours America to play his music and inspire young audiences with Faith, honesty and hope. He and his wife, Trinity, are based in Tampa, Fla.

In addition to the student events, the FCA organization will host its annual fundraiser Fall Golf Classic on Monday, Aug. 24 at The Ledges in Huntsville. The festive and competitive golf outing serves as a fundraiser to support local coaches and athletes in the community. Presented by Bill Penney Toyota of Huntsville, Bobby Schrimsher and Sons General Contractors and River Tree Insurance, the 18-hole scramble format round of golf includes a Chicfil- A box lunch beginning at noon with a golf shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. A hamburger and hot dog buffet will be available at conclusion of the tournament.
