City unveils road projects slated using Rebuild Alabama Act funds

MADISON – Madison leaders revealed plans for road improvements in 2027 using Rebuild Alabama Act (2019) Gas Tax funds at Monday’s Madison City Council meeting.

The Rebuild Alabama Act levied an additional 10 cents-per-gallon tax on gasoline in 2019 and requires the state to reserve $10 million of gas tax revenue annually for state and local road projects.

The city proposes using funds next year for paving County Line Road between the railroad crossing and Production Ave, Church Street, College Street, Arnett Street, and Front Street. The city also plans to use funds for Madison Boulevard bridge repairs between Westchester Road and Next Technology Drive.

“The downtown roads need to be paved. They have needed to be paved for years,” said city engineer Michael Johnson. “County Line Road is well needed. That one speaks for itself. We’ll do this section. The next section will be coming in future years.”

The total budget for the projects is $881,000.
