Neighborhoods, businesses earn beautification awards with pleasing landscaping

MADISON – Bright crimson blooms on petunias. Subtle hues of begonias. Snow-white blossoms of geraniums. Arrange these flowers amongst manicured shrubs, and you have a winning entry in rigorous judging by Madison Beautification and Tree Board.

The board sponsors the annual Madison Beautification Awards program to recognize outstanding landscaping in neighborhood entrances, businesses’ entries, retail restaurants, stores and public properties (including governmental buildings). The board places an award sign at winning sites.

Private homes aren’t eligible. Recently at Toyota Field, winners in various categories received their honors at the City of Madison Annual Beautification Awards Breakfast:

• Apartment communities – Ball Park Apartments, Livano at Town Madison, Madison Lakes, Madison Pines, Magnolia Point at Madison, Shelton Park Apartments, Somerset of Madison, The Dempsey, The Everstead at Madison, The Palmer House.

• Medical – Fresenius Medical Care, Madison Hospital, Pet Hospital of Madison, Sullins Eye Care.

• Neighborhoods – Abbington Downs, Belmont Place, Bradford Farms, Browns Ferry Crossing, Cambridge at Heritage Plantation, Clear Springs, Clift’s Cove, Dublin Farms, Edgewater, Foxfield, Gatehouse Manor, Greenbrier Woods, Heritage Plantation, Heritage Provence, Highland Lakes, Hunnington Chase, Millstone, Rainbow Landing, Shamrock, Stratford Square, The Oaks at Heritage, The Reserve at Bridgefield, The Villas at Madison, Walden Preserve, West Highlands, Windstone, Woodland Homes.

• Public Property – Discovery Middle School, Madison Church of Christ, Madison Elementary School.

• Restaurants – Bojangles, J. Alexander’s, Ted’s Bar-B-Q.

• Retail businesses – Weathers Ace Hardware, Cook’s Pest Control, Edward Jones, Indian Creek Nursery, Madison Golf Center, Medical Park Station, STI Electronics, The Catbird Seat.

In other beautification efforts, Madison Beautification and Tree Board assisted in funding and worked with Madison Facilities and Grounds Department to plan 22 trees at Madison Fire Station 2. According to the board, projects like this are a prime example of the accomplishments that are possible when city departments and community partners collaborate. These trees will improve the landscape and increase shade in the station grounds for years to come.
