Prep Volleyball Update: Madison Academy wipes out volleyball deficit
HUNTSVILLE – Host and upset-minded Westminster made noise with a first-set win over Madison Academy in their Private Double-A, Area 4 clash Tuesday.
The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 8 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, heard.
Madison Academy rebounded with 25-18, 25-21 and 25-7 to take the match 3-1 and send its own message while improving to 12-9 overall and 2-0 in the area.
Becky Mouser had 18 kills and Janelle Lowery added 11 with four aces. Indali Robinson had 38 assists, Molly Thomas 17 digs and Evie Stephenson three blocks for the visitors.
Madison Academy also defeated Brewer in a non-league match 2-2 (25-10, 21-25, 15-10).
Mouser had 18 kills and 16 digs, Robinson 24 assists and Janelle Lowery two blocks.
The Lady Mustangs host Madison County and Athens in a non-area tri-match Thursday.
In other matches featuring local teams, Sparkman stunned No. 2 Buckhorn 3-2 in a 6A match in Harvest, while James Clemens was swept in a tri-match by West Morgan (2-0) and host Cullman (2-0).
Sparkman is at Lawrence County on Thursday, and James Clemens plays Saturday in the Muscle Shoals First Metro Invitational
Bob Jones back on road: The Lady Patriots play in the Rocky Mountain Classic beginning Friday in Sevierville, Tenn.
Bob Jones opens play against South Greene (Greenville, Tenn.) at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by an 8 p.m. start against Morgan County (Madison, Ga.), before taking on Collinwood (Tenn.) at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Bob Jones (14-6) is coming off a 4-2 showing in the Supreme Courts Tournament of Champions in Guntersville. The Lady Patriots defeated Sylacauga 2-0, Walker Valley (Cleveland, Tenn.) 2-0, Oakland (Murfreesboro) 2-1 and Creekview (Canton, Ga.) 2-0.
The Lady Patriots also lost to Tennessee’s Nolensville 2-0 and Collierville 2-1.

Sparkman 29, Bob Jones 12: In Harvest, host Sparkman defeated Bob Jones in the 6A, Region 4 opener for both. Tuesday, the Lady Senators (2-1, 1-0) host Huntsville and Gadsden City is at Bob Jones (0-2, 0-1).
